Fomitopsis pinicola is a traditional medicinal mushroom used traditionally in the folk medicine of both China and Korea. Polysaccharides are the principal constituents of the fruiting body of F.pinicola. In the current study 3 different extracts were prepared, Polysaccharide Extract (FPP), Alkali Extract (AE) and Chloroform Extract (FPC).

Extracted polysaccharides had a strong inhibitory effect on vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)-induced tube formation in ECs in a dose-dependent manner. Fomitopsis pinicola is one of the most conspicuous and widely distributed polypores in coniferous forest regions of the northern hemisphere.
